NIMENA has invited researchers and professionals to submit papers to two peer-reviewed journals covering blue economy, sustainable energy, marine engineering and naval architecture.
The Nigerian Institute of Marine Engineers and Naval Architects (NIMENA) has opened submissions for research papers to two of its academic publications: the Journal of Blue Economy and Sustainable Energy Development (JBESED) and the African Journal of Offshore, Marine Engineering and Naval Architecture (AJOMENA).
The initiative is intended to advance research, innovation and knowledge development as important drivers of Nigeria’s maritime industry and its emerging blue economy.
NIMENA said JBESED is welcoming scholarly work addressing a broad range of issues related to the blue economy and sustainable energy development.
Among its areas of interest is blue economy governance, including research covering ocean policy, marine spatial planning and coastal zone management.
The journal is also seeking studies on offshore renewable energy, particularly wind, wave and tidal energy systems, as well as technology transition.
Other areas highlighted by the journal include sustainable fisheries and aquaculture, resource management, ecosystem resilience and marine environmental protection.
Research dealing with pollution control, habitat restoration and climate adaptation is also encouraged.
AJOMENA is inviting academic contributions focused on offshore engineering, marine engineering and naval architecture.
For naval architecture, areas of interest include ship design, hydrodynamics and stability.
Offshore engineering submissions may examine subjects such as subsea structures, floating production storage and offloading units (FPSOs) and renewable energy.
The marine engineering category covers propulsion systems, green technologies and decarbonisation.
Researchers working on maritime operations can also submit studies relating to shipping logistics, safety management and smart ships.
NIMENA described both publications as peer-reviewed and open-access journals. Researchers whose papers are accepted will benefit from fast publication and high visibility, according to the institute.
An Article Processing Charge (APC) of $500 will apply to accepted papers.
However, NIMENA said the first 20 best-quality publications will be published without charge, with the institute covering the associated publication costs.
Selection of the 20 papers will be based on several criteria, including scientific validity, technical soundness, originality, international collaboration, potential impact and research integrity.
NIMENA also stated that submissions must achieve a minimum qualification score of 80 per cent to qualify for publication.
The opportunity is open to researchers, academics and professionals interested in contributing to discussions on Nigeria’s maritime industry, blue economy and sustainable energy development.
The call for papers forms part of NIMENA’s broader focus on professional development, research and innovation within Nigeria’s maritime ecosystem.
The institute recently announced the Plug and Play x NIMENA GOAL Accelerator, which is aimed at supporting high-potential startups operating in the maritime and energy sectors while strengthening innovation connections between Nigeria and Singapore.
NIMENA said the academic journals initiative would complement these activities by providing researchers and industry practitioners with a platform to document and share ideas capable of addressing emerging challenges in the maritime sector.
Researchers interested in JBESED can access submission information through nimenajournals.com/jbesed, while submission guidelines and additional information for AJOMENA are available through nimenajournals.com/ajomena.
The initiative underscores the role of research and innovation in strengthening Nigeria’s maritime industry and developing opportunities within the country’s expanding blue economy.
