The Sustainability Professionals Institute of Nigeria (SPIN) has officially inducted 79 new members during its 2026 Cohort 6 induction ceremony, reinforcing its mission to professionalize sustainability practice across Nigeria.

The ceremony took place on Thursday, June 25, 2026, at the Lagos Chamber of Commerce and Industry in Victoria Island, Lagos. marked another milestone in SPIN’s efforts to strengthen sustainability as a strategic discipline within both public and private sector organizations.

Professionals from a broad range of industries attended the induction alongside institutional members, including Access Bank, ARM, ARRIDEX, Dangote Cement, FirstBank, IHS, Lotus Bank, Mainstream Energy Solutions, OANDO, and SEPLAT Energy.

Their presence reflected a shared commitment to advancing sustainability through evidence-based practices, responsible governance, and collaborative leadership.

Held under the theme, “Effective Corporate Governance as a Core Sustainability Pillar – Leading the Change,” the ceremony emphasized the evolving role of sustainability in modern organizations.

The institute highlighted that sustainability has moved beyond reporting obligations and regulatory compliance to become a governance imperative that should influence organizational strategy, decision-making, and long-term resilience.

Delivering the keynote address, Professor Emmanuel Adegbite, Chairperson of SPIN’s Scientific Committee and Professor of Accounting and Corporate Governance at the University of Nottingham, encouraged the newly inducted members to embrace stewardship rather than limiting sustainability efforts to compliance.

He further stressed that African countries should not simply adopt imported governance models but instead develop governance frameworks that reflect local contexts.
