Nigeria courts Spanish investors as blue economy gains new drive

Nigeria is intensifying efforts to develop its blue economy and attract investment from Spain, with the Nigerian Ambassador to Spain, Dr Okezie Ikpeazu, participating in the opening of CONXEMAR 2026 in Vigo, Galicia.

Ikpeazu attended the opening ceremony of the 27th International Frozen Seafood Exhibition, held at the IFEVI Exhibition Centre in Vigo.

CONXEMAR is a major international trade fair for the frozen seafood industry, bringing together stakeholders across fisheries, aquaculture, marine activities and related sectors.

The opening ceremony attracted Spanish government officials, members of the diplomatic corps, business leaders and other stakeholders from the fisheries and aquaculture industries.

During engagements on the sidelines of the exhibition, Ikpeazu met with CONXEMAR officials as well as representatives of companies involved in packaging, marine and fisheries-related industries.

The discussions were part of Nigeria’s ongoing efforts to promote its blue economy as an investment destination while deepening economic cooperation between Nigeria and Spain.

The engagements also sought to create opportunities for Spanish companies to examine investment prospects across Nigeria’s fisheries, aquaculture and marine industries, as well as the wider blue economy sector.

The participation at CONXEMAR 2026 forms part of efforts to connect Nigeria’s blue economy opportunities with international businesses and strengthen commercial ties with Spanish stakeholders in relevant industries.
