RLRH opens mentorship applications for displaced African students

The Refugee-Led Research Hub (RLRH) has opened applications for its 2026 Graduate Horizons Mentorship and Scholarship Programme, which supports African students affected by displacement seeking funded Master’s degrees beginning in 2027.

Applications close on October 25, 2026, at 5 pm British Summer Time (BST).

The free, six-month online programme will run from November 2026 to April 2027, offering structured support through group workshops, application clinics, writing bootcamps and one-on-one mentorship. Participants will be paired with an RLRH mentor or staff member to strengthen their graduate applications.

The programme focuses on applications to selected universities with deadlines between December 2026 and April 2027, including institutions associated with the Mastercard Foundation Scholars Program.

Participating universities include the University of Oxford, the University of Cambridge and Sciences Po in the UK and Europe, as well as the University of California, Berkeley, in North America.

In Africa and West Asia, the institutions are Carnegie Mellon University Africa, the University of Global Health Equity, Université Mohammed VI Polytechnique, the African Institute for Mathematical Sciences (AIMS), the American University in Cairo and the American University of Beirut.

Applicants must identify as having been affected by displacement, including current or former refugees, asylum seekers, internally displaced persons (IDPs), stateless people or individuals affected by intergenerational dislocation.

Candidates must hold a bachelor’s degree or be in their final year of undergraduate study, with results equivalent to a UK upper second-class honours degree (2:1), 75 per cent or a 3.0 GPA on a 4.0 scale.

Applicants must also demonstrate the ability to study and write professionally in English and/or French and plan to submit applications within six months for 2027 enrolment.

RLRH particularly encourages applications from groups under-represented in higher education, including women, LGBTQ+ and gender non-conforming candidates, persons with disabilities, and people living in displacement camps or rural communities.

Interested candidates can review the full eligibility criteria and application details on the RLRH website.
