The Airtel Africa Foundation has launched a scholarship programme in Zambia that will support 50 students at the University of Zambia (UNZA) and Copperbelt University (CBU).
Under the initiative, 25 students will be selected from each university. The scholarships are targeted at prospective first-year students pursuing eligible technology-related programmes at the two institutions.
Successful recipients will have their tuition fees and accommodation covered throughout the full five-year programme. The scholarship package will also include a laptop, monthly data connectivity and a monthly allowance to help students meet the costs associated with their studies.
Beyond financial assistance, beneficiaries will have access to internship opportunities aimed at providing practical workplace experience and enhancing their preparedness for employment after graduation.
Airtel Zambia Managing Director Hussam Baday said the programme demonstrates the company’s commitment to leveraging education and digital inclusion to expand opportunities for young people and increase their participation in the digital economy.
Representatives of Zambia’s Ministry of Education, UNZA and CBU attended the launch. Brian Makufele, Director of University Education, represented the Permanent Secretary at the Ministry of Education and praised Airtel for its contribution to the education sector.
Applications are currently open to prospective first-year students who are enrolled in eligible technology-related programmes at UNZA and CBU.
