Airtel, UNICEF expand digital learning access in Nigeria schools

Airtel Africa Foundation, working with UNICEF, is extending access to digital learning in schools across Nigeria as the partners seek to connect communities where technology and connectivity can make the greatest difference.

According to the foundation, engagement with local governments has provided a clearer understanding of schoolchildren’s needs and helped identify schools that are best positioned to benefit from investments in digital learning.

St Agnes Primary School in Lagos is one of the schools benefiting from the initiative. Through the Airtel-UNICEF partnership, students at the school have access to connectivity and digital learning tools, enabling them to explore educational resources beyond what is available within their classrooms.

The programme is also giving teachers opportunities to use technology in new ways to engage pupils and support their learning and development.

The broader school connectivity programme has so far reached more than 1,200 schools across Nigeria, providing approximately 600,000 learners with digital learning tools and connectivity.

Airtel Africa Foundation said the initiative forms part of its wider commitment to digital inclusion. By connecting schools, the programme is intended to give young people greater opportunities to build digital confidence, access knowledge and acquire skills that are relevant to an evolving economy.

The foundation noted that digital inclusion involves more than providing internet access. Its broader objective is to ensure young people are equipped to use technology for learning and personal development while creating opportunities for their future.
