Egbin Power has commenced the 11th edition of its annual scholarship programme, attracting more than 250 students from its host communities for the opening pre-test exercise.

The initiative provides free educational support to outstanding pupils and students in primary and secondary schools within communities hosting Egbin Power. Beyond academic assistance, the programme is intended to improve participants’ academic performance and build confidence, discipline, leadership abilities and other essential life skills.

For its 2026 edition, the programme will extend beyond the scholarship component to include an education fair, boot camp, mentorship sessions and playgroup activities. The activities are designed to provide participants with opportunities to develop their academic capabilities alongside their personal skills.

Chief Executive Officer of Egbin Power, Mokhtar Bounour, said the company considers education a significant investment in the sustainable development of the communities where it operates.

Bounour said Egbin Power’s responsibility extends beyond electricity generation, encompassing efforts to create opportunities, nurture young talent and contribute to the development of future professionals and community leaders.

He added that the scholarship programme demonstrates the company’s commitment to Sustainable Development Goal 4 (SDG 4), which focuses on inclusive and equitable quality education and lifelong learning opportunities.

The scholarship scheme was established under Egbin Power’s Personal Corporate Social Responsibility (PCSR) initiative and has continued to provide support to outstanding students in the company’s host communities.

Egbin Power said the scholarship is part of a broader community development programme covering areas including healthcare, youth empowerment, community infrastructure and human capital development.

The company said its long-term goal is to use these interventions to establish sustainable opportunities for young people while contributing to the development of stronger and more productive host communities.
