The Niger Delta Power Holding Company Limited (NDPHC) has commended the Nigerian Ports Authority (NPA) for facilitating the recovery of several of its abandoned cargoes at seaports across the country.

The intervention is expected to support the optimisation of the power sector and improve service delivery.

The commendation came during a courtesy visit by an NDPHC delegation, led by its Managing Director/Chief Executive Officer, Engr. Jennifer Adighije, to the NPA headquarters in Marina, Lagos.

During the meeting, Adighije said the visit was intended to strengthen the strategic partnership between the two organisations and expand cooperation in areas of mutual interest.

She expressed the company’s appreciation to the NPA Managing Director/CEO, Dr. Abubakar Dantsoho, and his management team for their role in facilitating the recovery of NDPHC cargoes that had remained abandoned at different seaports.

According to Adighije, the NPA’s intervention helped avert substantial financial losses and saved NDPHC several billions of naira that could otherwise have been lost.

She also emphasised the importance of efficient logistics and the timely clearance of critical equipment to the successful execution of power infrastructure projects. She stressed that continued cooperation among organisations and government agencies operating within the energy and maritime sectors remained necessary.

Adighije said NDPHC appreciated the assistance provided by the NPA and expressed the company’s readiness to deepen the relationship for the benefit of Nigeria’s power sector and the broader economy.

Members of the NDPHC delegation included the Executive Director, Corporate Services, Hon. Chukwuma Umeoji; Executive Director, Finance & Accounts, Mr. Omololu Agoro; and Head, Expediting & Logistics, Rufai Ahmed.

In his response, Dantsoho welcomed the delegation and reaffirmed the NPA management’s commitment to partnerships and initiatives capable of advancing national development and improving the lives of Nigerians.

He congratulated NDPHC for its contributions to the development of the country’s power sector, adding that the authority remained willing to engage meaningfully with the company.

Dantsoho further assured the delegation that the NPA would continue supporting initiatives that promote the interests of both organisations while contributing to the expansion of the national economy.

He wished NDPHC continued success and said his doors would remain open to productive discussions and partnerships.

The meeting highlighted the role of inter-agency cooperation in addressing logistical challenges capable of slowing down critical infrastructure projects. Such collaboration is particularly important to the power sector, where timely access to equipment is essential for efforts to improve electricity supply nationwide.

Our correspondent reports that Nigeria is currently expanding its electricity supply chain in a bid to create broader sub-regional markets while increasing domestic supply capacity.

The optimisation of installed capacity is also expected to take significant shape as the Nigerian Independent System Operator (NISO) confirms fresh operational capability designed to improve efficiency and strengthen export competitiveness.

Confirming the development, the Managing Director of the NISO, Abdu Mohammed, told LEADERSHIP that broader investment is targeting electricity export growth with intended economic returns and other hand effectively attend to increasing demand at home.

Similarly, Sadiq Wanka, Special Adviser to the President on Power Infrastructure, said Nigeria has vast generation potential and installed generation capacity that outstrips grid consumption today.
