The Niger Delta Power Holding Company (NDPHC) is stepping up efforts to connect more businesses, manufacturers and commercial operators to reliable electricity through its Eligible Customer Programme.
The programme enables qualifying customers to access dedicated electricity supply under mutually agreed commercial arrangements, as NDPHC seeks to narrow the gap between available generation capacity and the increasing demand for dependable power from Nigeria’s productive sector.
NDPHC Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer, Engr. Jennifer Adighije, made the call on Monday in Abuja during the company’s Customer Service Week.
Adighije expressed appreciation to existing customers for their confidence in the programme while urging other eligible businesses to participate.
“To our existing customers, thank you for your trust. To businesses yet to join, power your growth with NDPHC’s Eligible Customer Programme, which offers dedicated power supply and mutually agreed commercial terms,” Adighije said.
NDPHC operates 10 power plants with 28 gas turbines and three steam turbines, giving the company an installed generation capacity of about 4,000MW.
The company said its generation portfolio provides a platform for serving large electricity consumers as it continues efforts to recover dormant capacity and improve plant availability.
The facilities include major power plants developed under the National Integrated Power Project (NIPP).
NDPHC has also stepped up rehabilitation of underperforming facilities, alongside measures to improve gas availability and tackle infrastructure constraints affecting power generation and evacuation.
One of the recent milestones was the restoration of the 450MW Alaoji Open Cycle Power Plant in Abia State. The plant had remained shut since 2023 amid gas supply and metering disputes.
Its return to service forms part of NDPHC’s efforts to recover stranded generation capacity and strengthen electricity supply.
For manufacturers and commercial operators, however, available generation capacity alone does not guarantee the reliability required for business operations. Predictable electricity supply is important for production planning, cost management and long-term investment decisions.
NDPHC said the Eligible Customer Programme is intended to create stronger commercial connections between its generation assets and productive-sector consumers. The arrangement could help businesses reduce their dependence on alternative power sources while improving operational efficiency.
Speaking during the Customer Service Week, NDPHC Executive Director, Strategy & Commercial, Hon. Patrick Obahiagbon, highlighted the importance of maintaining a customer-focused culture to deliver value and strengthen relationships with stakeholders.
The event was attended by members of NDPHC’s Executive Management Team, including Executive Directors responsible for Generation, Legal Services and Networks, as well as General Managers, Heads of Departments and other staff.
“At NDPHC, we remain committed to powering the nation’s progress by strengthening the infrastructure that delivers electricity to homes, businesses and industry,” Adighije said.
The Eligible Customer Programme forms part of broader efforts to improve electricity supply to productive sectors, support industrialisation and strengthen the commercial sustainability of Nigeria’s power sector.
