Kwali Area Council is seeking to establish a partnership with the National Information Technology Development Agency (NITDA) to expand digital literacy, ICT development and technology adoption across the Federal Capital Territory.
The Executive Chairman of Kwali Area Council, Hon. Nuhu Daniel Kwali, made the move during a visit to NITDA in Abuja on June 15, 2026, where he held discussions on opportunities for collaboration in digital literacy, ICT development and the use of technology.
The engagement was aimed at building stronger cooperation that would improve digital awareness among residents and increase the use of technology in the administration of the Area Council.
Kwali said his experience in local government administration had highlighted the importance of using technology to strengthen governance, improve efficiency and enhance service delivery.
He also stressed the need to expose residents to available digital opportunities while ensuring that council employees acquire the ICT skills required to perform their responsibilities effectively.
“The world has become a global stage, and there is a need for us to engage more with technology to make our commitments and administrative processes faster and more efficient,” he said.
The Chairman said the council was prepared to work with NITDA on workforce training, digital capacity development and the deployment of technology-driven solutions capable of improving services for residents of Kwali Area Council.
Representing NITDA’s Director-General, Kashifu Inuwa Abdullahi, the agency’s Director of Human Resources, Sarafa Lawal, welcomed the proposed partnership.
Lawal described the initiative as an opportunity to strengthen technology adoption and digital literacy at the grassroots level.
NITDA said one of its major objectives is to ensure that 70% of Nigerians acquire digital literacy skills by 2027. The agency noted that local governments are critical to achieving the target because of their proximity to citizens.
The agency also indicated its readiness to work with Kwali Area Council to train and upskill council employees, as well as support programmes designed to equip young people and other residents with relevant digital capabilities.
The proposed collaboration is expected to support digital inclusion, human capacity development and broader technology adoption within Kwali Area Council.
Both sides expressed interest in deepening cooperation in areas including digital skills development, ICT capacity building, youth empowerment and improved public service delivery.
The initiative also forms part of efforts to strengthen digital capacity at the local level and advance technology adoption within the administration and communities of Kwali Area Council.
