Keystone Bank Limited has joined forces with the Food and Beverage Recycling Alliance (FBRA) to strengthen the capacity of 100 Green SMEs to convert waste materials into commercially viable products and develop sustainable, profitable businesses.
The initiative, held under the theme “Keystone-FBRA Green SME Master Class”, exposed participants to practical techniques for upcycling rubber and food and beverage packaging. The programme also featured sessions focused on business management, financial preparedness, taxation and strategies for business expansion.
In a statement issued by Keystone Bank on Monday, the lender said the programme reflects its commitment to expanding its role in Nigeria’s green economy while promoting sustainable enterprise development.
The bank also highlighted its Eco Cycle Product as an important part of its green finance offering. According to Keystone Bank, the product provides businesses operating in the circular economy with tailored financial solutions aimed at supporting business growth while promoting environmental sustainability.
“The Master Class aligns with our Waste-to-Wealth sustainability approach, which seeks to empower entrepreneurs to transform environmental challenges into economic opportunities while fostering innovation, job creation and sustainable business practices.
“The participants were also introduced to the Bank’s financial solutions, including the Eco Cycle Product, MSME Time Loan, MSME Asset Finance and Sustainable Energy Finance, designed to provide tailored funding and support for businesses at different stages of their growth,” the lender said.
Martins Ofiegbe, Unit Head, SME Banking, Retail & Digital Banking, Keystone Bank, facilitated sessions on “Financial Discipline and Revenue Growth Strategies” and “Preparing Business Documentation and Positioning Businesses for Funding”.
During the sessions, Ofiegbe gave participants practical guidance on managing finances, maintaining appropriate business documentation and preparing their enterprises to access funding.
Akinwunmi Karunwi, Department Head, Regulatory Reporting & Tax Management, Keystone Bank, addressed the participants on “Understanding the New Tax Regime: What SMEs Must Know”.
His session provided an overview of important tax considerations and compliance obligations applicable to small and medium-sized businesses.
The initiative also brought together other stakeholders, including the Small and Medium Enterprises Development Agency of Nigeria (SMEDAN), Lagos State Waste Management Authority (LAWMA), and Zannytecture Recycling Company Limited.
