The Transmission Company of Nigeria (TCN) has reaffirmed its commitment to closer collaboration with host communities after receiving members of the United Progressive Youth of Afaka (UPYA) during a courtesy visit to the company’s Kaduna Regional Office.

The engagement, held on Tuesday in Kaduna, highlighted the growing relationship between TCN and its host communities, with both parties emphasizing the importance of safeguarding critical electricity infrastructure through sustained cooperation.

According to a statement issued by the General Manager, Public Affairs, Ndidi Mbah, discussions focused on strengthening the existing partnership, fostering peaceful coexistence, and expanding community involvement in protecting transmission facilities while advancing sustainable community development.

During the meeting, the General Manager (Transmission), Kaduna Region, Engr. Nasir Mansur S. Fada, reiterated the company’s dedication to maintaining open communication, mutual respect, and continuous collaboration with communities hosting transmission assets.

He explained that TCN’s community engagement strategy is designed to build trust, resolve concerns through dialogue, and encourage residents to actively participate in protecting critical power infrastructure for the benefit of all Nigerians.

Representing the visiting delegation, the Secretary-General of the United Progressive Youth of Afaka (UPYA), Abdulhafiz Yahya, praised TCN for its impactful Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) initiatives and consistent engagement with the community.

He also reaffirmed the group’s commitment to supporting efforts aimed at protecting transmission installations, describing the collaboration as beneficial to both the Afaka community and Nigeria’s electricity transmission network.

The company noted that the visit demonstrates the positive outcomes of its sustained stakeholder engagement and sensitisation programmes, which have continued to strengthen cordial relationships with communities where transmission infrastructure is located.

Through these initiatives, TCN has consistently encouraged residents to regard transmission installations as shared national assets requiring collective ownership and protection against vandalism and other security threats.

According to the company, the meeting further reinforces its position that strong partnerships with host communities remain vital to protecting transmission infrastructure, reducing incidents of vandalism, and supporting a more reliable electricity transmission system across Nigeria.
