African youth organisations invited to join water and climate action initiative across continent

Applications are open for the African Youth Water and Climate Engagement Initiative (AYWCEI), an opportunity for youth-led and youth-focused organisations working on water, climate, environmental sustainability and related development challenges across Africa.

The initiative is intended to strengthen the participation of young people in water and climate action by creating opportunities for youth organisations to contribute to solutions, advocacy, community engagement and resilience-building efforts.

The opportunity is open to youth-led organisations, youth-focused organisations, civil society organisations working with young people, organisations addressing water and climate challenges, and youth groups involved in environmental sustainability and climate action.

Applicants are advised to review the official application form for the complete eligibility requirements.

The initiative focuses on areas including water security and management, climate change and adaptation, environmental sustainability, climate resilience, water, sanitation and hygiene, youth participation in climate policy, community-based climate action, sustainable development and environmental advocacy.

Participating organisations are expected to have opportunities to strengthen their capacity for water and climate engagement, connect with other youth organisations and stakeholders, and increase youth participation in water and climate decision-making.

The initiative will also provide opportunities for organisations to showcase youth-led solutions, establish partnerships around climate and water initiatives, and contribute to regional discussions on water security and climate resilience.

The programme comes amid growing attention to Africa’s water and climate challenges and the need for stronger youth involvement. Climate change continues to place pressure on water resources and communities, while recent continental discussions have highlighted water security, resilience and sustainable development as important elements of Africa’s development agenda.

The current application deadline was not included in the information provided, so applicants should consult the official application form for the applicable deadline.
