Airtel Nigeria has commenced the rollout of infrastructure and technology upgrades across 10 schools adopted under its School Adoption Programme in nine states of Nigeria.

The intervention is designed to improve the learning environment while providing pupils and teachers with essential educational resources and better school facilities.

As part of the upgrades, the participating schools are receiving freshly painted classrooms, new furniture and civil works. In some locations, the intervention has included the construction of new classroom blocks, with work extending from foundation level through roofing.

The programme is also providing additional facilities and learning materials, including toilet facilities, electricity, fans, water boreholes and whiteboards. Pupils are also benefiting from writing materials and back-to-school supplies.

A major element of the initiative is the establishment of new information and communications technology (ICT) laboratories. The ICT facilities are being developed through a partnership between Airtel Nigeria and American Tower Corporation (ATC).

The newly constructed laboratories feature solar-powered inverters, CCTV cameras, laptops and 85-inch smart screens. According to the programme’s stated objective, the facilities are intended to increase pupils’ access to digital tools while creating opportunities for them to build technology-related skills.

The School Adoption Programme is part of Airtel Africa’s wider social investment activities, which are supported by the Airtel Africa Foundation. The foundation’s areas of focus include education, financial inclusion, environmental sustainability and digital inclusion.

Through the school adoption programme and collaborations with organisations including American Tower, Airtel Nigeria is extending improved educational infrastructure and access to technology to schools in different parts of the country.
