The Nigerian Midstream and Downstream Petroleum Regulatory Authority (NMDPRA) and the Nigeria Governors’ Forum (NGF) have commenced discussions on a strategic partnership aimed at attracting greater investment into Nigeria’s midstream and downstream petroleum industry.
The initiative was announced during a courtesy visit by officials of the Nigeria Governors’ Forum to the Authority Chief Executive of the NMDPRA, Mallam Rabiu A. Umar. During the meeting, both parties explored measures to strengthen collaboration between the Federal Government and state governments.
According to the NMDPRA, the engagement centred on establishing a structured framework that would unlock investment opportunities across all 36 states and the Federal Capital Territory.
The proposed areas of collaboration include gas-to-power projects, expansion of Compressed Natural Gas (CNG) for transportation, wider adoption of Liquefied Petroleum Gas (LPG), clean cooking initiatives, embedded power generation, and other strategic interventions intended to improve energy access and stimulate economic growth.
The authority stated that the partnership is expected to accelerate investment in critical energy infrastructure while advancing the Federal Government’s efforts to expand gas utilisation, strengthen energy security, and promote sustainable development across the country.
