West Africa Container Terminal (WACT)-APM Terminals Nigeria has strengthened its commitment to education by awarding scholarships to 52 new beneficiaries, increasing the total number of recipients under the WACT Scholarship Scheme to 193.
The latest beneficiaries include 47 students from the company’s host communities and five children of employees. The scholarship award ceremony was attended by members of the WACT management team, the Country CEO of APM Terminals Nigeria, community leaders from WACT’s host communities, parents, guardians, employees and the student beneficiaries.
Addressing attendees at the event, WACT Managing Director, Courage Obadagbonyi, said the scholarship initiative reflects the company’s long-term investment in the future of students and the communities where it operates.
“This scholarship programme is aimed at empowering students to shine as leaders and contributors to their families, their communities, Rivers State and Nigeria at large.”
Obadagbonyi also congratulated the scholarship recipients for their academic accomplishments while acknowledging the support provided by their parents and guardians throughout their educational journeys.
“The singular fact that you are here as a beneficiary of the WACT Scholarship Scheme is a testament that you are not only intelligent but also diligent and dedicated to your studies.”
He explained that the ceremony represented the fifth edition of the scholarship awards since WACT introduced its transformation initiatives in 2021. According to him, the programme has strengthened engagement with the company’s host communities through its core pillars of Transparency, Visibility and Inclusivity.
Also speaking at the ceremony, the Country CEO of APM Terminals Nigeria, Frederik Klinke, described the scholarship programme as one of the organisation’s most significant social sustainability initiatives. He noted that investing in education aligns with the company’s broader purpose of facilitating trade and supporting national development.
The latest awards bring the total number of beneficiaries under the WACT Scholarship Scheme to 193, reinforcing the company’s ongoing investment in educational development and community empowerment.
