The Nigerian Breweries–Felix Ohiwerei Education Trust Fund (NB/FOETF) has awarded a secondary school scholarship to Ayomide Avose, the student who drew nationwide attention after delivering the keynote address at the 2025 Maltina Teacher of the Year Grand Finale.
Ayomide, who is supported under the Slum2School Africa initiative, earned widespread recognition during the national event for an inspiring keynote speech that showcased confidence, eloquence, and impressive intellectual ability. His performance highlighted his exceptional promise despite growing up in an underserved community.
As part of efforts to advance his educational journey, the NB/FOETF will fund his secondary school education by covering tuition and other essential academic needs throughout the duration of his studies.
The scholarship will be managed through Slum2School Africa, which will oversee its implementation by providing academic monitoring, psychosocial support and the necessary framework to ensure the intervention is successfully delivered.
Speaking on the scholarship award, the Public Relations Officer of the NB/FOETF, Uzo Odenigbo, said the initiative reflects the Trust Fund’s continued commitment to widening access to quality education while creating opportunities for gifted young Nigerians from underserved communities.
According to Odenigbo, such interventions not only change individual lives but also contribute to national development by equipping future leaders with the opportunities needed to drive sustainable progress.
“Ayomide’s story underscores the importance of creating access to opportunities for young people with evident potential. At the Nigerian Breweries-Felix Ohiwerei Education Trust Fund, we remain committed to advancing educational development and ensuring that talented individuals are not limited by their circumstances. We are pleased to support his secondary education and look forward to his continued growth and achievements,” he said.
Also commenting, Chief of Staff/Senior Partnership Manager at Slum2School Africa, Hauwa Yahaya, thanked the Trust Fund for supporting Ayomide and reaffirmed the organisation’s commitment to ensuring the scholarship is effectively implemented.
She said Slum2School Africa would continue to provide the academic support systems and monitoring frameworks required to help the teenager excel throughout his secondary education.
“On behalf of the entire Slum2School Africa team and our board members, we sincerely appreciate the generous scholarship awarded to Ayomide Avose by the Nigerian Breweries–Felix Ohiwerei Education Trust Fund. We are grateful for the support in securing Ayomide’s access to quality secondary education and nurturing his exceptional potential. This investment not only affirms your dedication to educational development but also strengthens the collective impact we can achieve for children from underserved communities,” she added.
