Future-ready skills key to Nigeria’s next economic transformation, says JMG on Youth Skills Day

JMG, an integrated electromechanical solutions company, has called for deeper collaboration among government, industry stakeholders, and educational institutions to equip young Nigerians with the future-ready skills needed to stimulate innovation, improve employability, and support sustainable economic growth.

The company appealed as the world marks World Youth Skills Day 2026, an annual observance dedicated to promoting the importance of equipping young people with the technical, digital, artificial intelligence, green and human skills required to succeed in an evolving global labour market.

Speaking on the significance of the occasion, JMG’s Chief Human Resources Officer, Gloria Ibeziako, stressed that building a competitive future workforce requires sustained investment in skills development alongside stronger partnerships between educational institutions and industry.

“The future of every economy depends on the quality of its people. As technology continues to reshape industries, we must ensure that young people are equipped not only with technical knowledge but also with the digital, problem-solving and collaborative skills that will enable them to compete and succeed anywhere in the world,” Ibeziako stated.

She explained that rapid technological advancements are reshaping workplaces across industries while simultaneously opening new opportunities for young people who are prepared to embrace lifelong learning and innovation.

Highlighting the role of the private sector, Ibeziako said organisations must go beyond employment creation by investing in practical learning opportunities that help bridge the gap between education and workplace expectations.

“Businesses have an important role to play in developing the next generation of professionals. Beyond creating jobs, organisations should support practical learning through mentorship, workplace exposure and technical training that bridge the gap between education and industry,” she said.

JMG maintained that stronger cooperation among government, educational institutions and the private sector will be essential in preparing Nigerian youths with the skills required to compete effectively in the future economy and contribute to the country’s long-term economic development.
