Spiro, Africa’s leading electric mobility company, has entered into a strategic partnership with Yadea, the world’s leading manufacturer of electric two-wheelers, to expand accessible and sustainable electric transport across the continent.
The collaboration brings together Yadea’s global manufacturing and research and development capabilities with Spiro’s operational presence and battery-swapping ecosystem spanning seven African countries.
Through the partnership, the companies plan to establish a scalable and commercially sustainable electric vehicle framework targeting millions of commercial fleet operators, delivery services, logistics providers and daily commuters in some of Africa’s fastest-growing mobility markets.
Under the agreement, Yadea will provide electric two-wheelers and other related EV products designed for Spiro’s growing regional markets. Spiro, in turn, will incorporate the vehicles into its proprietary battery-swapping and energy infrastructure.
The two companies will also work jointly on customised two-wheeler platforms designed around local road conditions and the commercial needs of users across African markets.
The partnership further strengthens the China-Africa connection by combining Yadea’s manufacturing capacity with Spiro’s battery-swapping network and its knowledge of African market dynamics. The companies intend to use the combined capabilities to accelerate the continent’s move towards affordable electric transportation.
“When we launched Spiro, our mission was to lay the energy and mobility foundation for Africa’s green transition. Our strategic partnership with Yadea is a major endorsement of our execution to date and opens fantastic opportunities to jointly pioneer the next era of electric mobility in emerging markets.”– Gagan Gupta, Founder, Spiro and Chairman, Equitane
“Africa’s shift to electric mobility is accelerating and this partnership helps us meet that demand at scale. By bringing together Yadea’s manufacturing strength with Spiro’s electric mobility ecosystem and operating experience across Africa, we are compressing the timeline to clean transport — helping thousands more riders switch to affordable EVs faster and multiplying our climate impact across the continent.”– Anant Badjatya, CEO, Spiro
“Africa represents a massive frontier for zero-emission transport. Our mission to reduce carbon emissions has reached a powerful milestone through this partnership with Spiro. Together, we are combining global innovation with local infrastructure to deliver scalable and sustainable mobility solutions that serve millions of riders and transform Africa’s urban transit.” – Wang Jiazhong, Senior Vice President, Yadea Technology Group
Founded in China, Yadea has sold more than 100 million electric two-wheelers globally across more than 100 countries. The company operates 10 exclusive production facilities worldwide and has registered more than 2,000 patents in electric vehicle technology.
Yadea provides a broad range of urban micro-mobility solutions and is described as the world’s leading manufacturer of electric two-wheelers.
The agreement comes as Spiro moves into another phase of growth and expansion across Africa after securing its latest $270 million funding round. The financing included investment from NewTrails Capital, a Chinese fund.
Spiro is developing an integrated electric mobility ecosystem that combines electric motorcycles with an extensive battery-swapping network. The system allows riders to replace depleted batteries with fully charged units within minutes.
