Seplat’s education support reaches 57,675 students in Edo, Delta

Spends over 20 million Naira on prizes for PEARL’s quiz competition in Edo

The management of Seplat Energy has revealed that over 57,675 students have been impacted via its educational programme in 13 years.

This was revealed by the Managing Director of Seplat West Limited, Ayodele Olatunde who was represented by the Base Manager of Western Asset of the company Emmanuel Otokhini during the finals of the PEARL’s quiz competition in Edo State.

“More than 57,675 students have benefited from the programme, with education grants provided to 108 students, over 80 of who have graduated or are studying in various universities within the country”, Olatunde.

Olatunde said education grants have been provided to 108 students, with over 80 now studying in various universities across the country.

It was also noted that 22 students have been sponsored through the undergraduate scholarship scheme, and three have undergone industrial training with Seplat Energy.

“This is our way of helping to improve the quality of education in the region where we operate. We are involved in the whole education value chain, promoting academic excellence, encouraging scholarship, and improving teaching skills through programs like the Seplat Teachers Empowerment Program.

“Over the past 13 years, the NEPL/Seplat JV PEARL’s Quiz initiative has empowered winning secondary schools to fund structural projects, such as language laboratories, computer laboratories, libraries, school buses, and classroom blocks through project-based cash prizes.’’

The Edo State Commissioner for Education, Joan Oviawe, said, “On behalf of the Edo State Ministry of Education, I appreciate Seplat Energy for this wonderful initiative. It’s always great when young people are opportuned to participate in academic contests. I also want to congratulate our state Secondary Education Board, the Executive Principal of the school, the teachers, and everyone involved.”

The Delta State’s Commissioner for Works (Rural and Riverine), Charles Aniagwu, also commended Seplat’s efforts in fostering growth and development in both states.

He noted that Seplat’s efforts align with the government’s vision.

The winner of the quiz competition, Imaguero College, Benin, Edo State, won N10 million for a school project and a scholarship of N100,000 each for the three participating students.

Marble Hill School from Asaba, Delta State, finished second place, winning N5 million for a project and N75,000 scholarship for each of the three participating students.

Edo State’s Baptist High School came in third, receiving N3 million for a project and N50,000 scholarship for each participating student, while teachers from the schools that got to the final state got laptops for their efforts.

Seplat, in conjunction with NNPCL also donated STEAM laboratories to Edo Boys High School and New Era Secondary School, Benin.
