Applications are now open for the 2027 Sasol Foundation Bursary Programme, offering eligible South African students financial support to pursue full-time undergraduate studies.
The application deadline is 23 August 2026.
The bursary programme is part of Sasol’s efforts to address the shortage of skilled professionals in South Africa and globally through initiatives that support the development of scholars and graduates.
STEM bursaries
The Sasol Foundation offers comprehensive bursaries to talented students intending to study full-time towards undergraduate degrees in Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics (STEM) fields.
Priority will be given to degree programmes aligned with future capability areas, including the Green Economy and Digitalisation.
Eligible fields of study include:
- Engineering
- Information Technology
- Data Sciences
- Agricultural Science
- Environmental Sciences
- Medical Sciences
- Construction and Manufacturing
- Other related disciplines
Applicants should note that postgraduate bursaries will not be available for the forthcoming academic year.
Non-STEM bursaries
Non-STEM bursaries are reserved only for qualifying students from Sasol’s fence-line communities, including municipalities and districts surrounding Sasol plants and operations, as well as children of Sasol Khanyisa shareholders and children of Sasol employees pursuing undergraduate degrees outside STEM disciplines.
The Foundation also confirmed that postgraduate bursaries will not be available for the forthcoming academic year under this category.
Eligibility requirements
The bursary programme is open exclusively to South African citizens by birth who are pursuing or planning to pursue full-time undergraduate degree studies at an approved public South African university or university of technology.
Applicants will be assessed based on the following requirements:
- Must have completed matric within one year before submitting an application or be currently completing matric if applying for first-year undergraduate studies.
- Must be a South African citizen by birth.
- Household income verification is required.
- Non-STEM bursaries are available only to qualifying children of Sasol employees, Khanyisa/Inzalo shareholders or candidates from Sasol fence-line communities.
- Academic performance will form part of the selection process.
- Combined annual household income must not exceed R800,000.00.
- Final selection will prioritise applicants who demonstrate financial need and strong academic performance.
- Applicants must be pursuing their first undergraduate degree.
- University students applying for second-, third- or fourth-year funding must have achieved an average of 60% across all modules.
- Applicants must not be older than 25 years at the time of applying.
