The reigning Miss World Nigeria,, Tamunosoye Karibi-George, has appealed to the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) to support her entrepreneurship-focused initiative aimed at equipping young Nigerians with practical skills for self-reliance.
Karibi-George appealed on Thursday during a courtesy visit to the Director-General of the NYSC, Brig.-Gen. Olakunle Nafiu, at the National Directorate Headquarters in Abuja.
The 2026 pageant winner explained that her pet project is dedicated to empowering young people through skill acquisition. As part of the initiative, she said a vocational training centre has already been established in Port Harcourt, Rivers State, where young men and women receive training in fashion design.
As an ex-corps member, the beauty queen also requested approval for her team to visit NYSC orientation camps across the country to inspire corps members to embrace vocational skills and entrepreneurship as viable career paths.
She further used the meeting to invite the NYSC Director-General, members of staff and corps members to her national send-off ceremony, scheduled to hold on 5 August 2026 at the Transcorp Hilton, Abuja.
Speaking on the impact of her initiative, Karibi-George said, “We have been training youth at the centre and giving them start-up kits at the end of their training. We don’t give them money so as to avoid the temptation of diverting it into another use other than the business we train them for,” she stated.
In his response, Brig.-Gen. Olakunle Nafiu commended the reigning Miss World Nigeria for promoting entrepreneurship among young Nigerians and acknowledged her efforts to support youth development through vocational training.
