The HPV Consortium at the College of Medicine, University of Ibadan (CoMUI), in partnership with Northwestern University, USA, and the Oyo State Primary Health Care Board, has commenced the second round of its Mobile Truck Clinic initiative across four Local Government Areas in Oyo State.

The outreach, which is fully funded by the John F. Flanagan Foundation, is designed to help close gaps in healthcare access by taking free, high-quality medical screening services directly to residents.

A total of 1,000 residents in Kajola, Iseyin, Ibadan North East and Ibadan North LGAs are expected to benefit from the initiative.

According to a statement by the Organizer, the programme is focused on preventing and detecting serious health conditions at an early stage. Services being offered include cervical cancer screening through HPV-based self-sampling tests, as well as screening for non-communicable diseases (NCDs).

The mobile clinic also provides diagnostics and assessments for diabetes and hypertension, giving residents access to important health checks without requiring visits to tertiary healthcare institutions.

Professor Oludare Morhason-Bello of the HPV Consortium and Professor Lifang Hou, Director of the Center for Global Oncology at Northwestern University, Chicago, jointly lead the project.

They are supported by a team of co-investigators comprising former Minister of Health Professor Isaac Adewole, Professor Femi Ogunbiyi and Professor Moses Adewumi, together with a dedicated medical team from the HPV Consortium.

The organisers said the mobile clinic was specifically established to reach populations that have limited access to tertiary health institutions.

The project team also acknowledged the contributions of the State Advisory Board, led by Chief Bisi Adesola, for its strategic guidance and support.

Other members recognised for their support include Dr. Dele Busari, Dr. Basheer Olanrewaju, Dr. Muideen Olatunji, Chief Yanju Adegbite, and Mrs. Delayo Adetunji-Oriekun.

The initiative therefore combines community-based access with preventive health services, bringing cervical cancer, diabetes and hypertension screening closer to residents across the four participating LGAs.
