Africa’s banking and financial industry is moving into a new phase as digital technology continues to expand access to financial services, with the digital payments economy projected to reach $1.5 trillion by 2030.
Against this backdrop, GITEX NIGERIA is introducing FDX by GITEX, a platform designed to modernise critical financial infrastructure, strengthen financial inclusion and bring together capital, policymakers and digital innovators to widen access and economic opportunities across Africa.
GITEX NIGERIA, held under the patronage of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, is West Africa’s largest technology, artificial intelligence and startup exhibition. The second edition is scheduled to take place across Abuja and Lagos from 31 August–3 September 2026.
The event is supported by the Federal Ministry of Communications, Innovation and Digital Economy in partnership with the National Information Technology Development Agency (NITDA). It is also endorsed by the Lagos State Government and organised by KAOUN International, the global organiser of GITEX events.
FDX by GITEX will take place at the Landmark Centre in Lagos on 3 September. The platform is expected to bring together key players influencing Africa’s financial future, with the aim of translating technological innovation into measurable economic outcomes.
The initiative will connect regulators, institutional investors, established businesses and high-growth startups. Its focus includes encouraging investment, expanding participation in financial services, supporting regulatory reform and advancing areas such as digital assets, capital markets, cross-border finance and collaboration between different sectors.
Dr Kadri Obafemi Hamzat, Deputy Governor of Lagos State, said: “As the commercial and innovation engine of West Africa, Lagos is committed to building a modern, tech-driven financial ecosystem that leaves no one behind. FDX at GITEX NIGERIA represents a pivotal platform to shape forward-looking policy and accelerate bold financial innovations.
“By aligning future banking and finance policy with cutting-edge digital infrastructure, we can deepen financial inclusion, unlock seamless cross-border trade, and catalyse sustainable economic value. Forward-thinking financial policies shall empower the entrepreneurial ambitions of Lagosians and drive the digital transformation of Nigeria’s US$1 trillion economy ambition.”
The platform will also focus on the role of institutional capital in Nigeria’s next stage of economic development. FDX by GITEX is positioned to link public-sector ambitions with the investment and partnerships required to support high-impact opportunities and broader economic transformation.
Ahead of his keynote address in Lagos, Dr Armstrong Ume Takang, Managing Director/Chief Executive Officer, Ministry of Finance Incorporated (MOFI), Nigeria, said: “Unlocking Nigeria’s $1 trillion economic ambition requires moving beyond policy intent to the effective mobilisation of institutional capital.
