CREDICORP opens device access through C.L.I.C.K.D. credit scheme

Nigerians seeking laptops, smartphones, tablets and other digital devices can now register their interest in the C.L.I.C.K.D. programme, an initiative of the Nigerian Consumer Credit Corporation (CREDICORP) aimed at making essential technology more accessible through consumer credit.

C.L.I.C.K.D., which stands for Credit for Laptops, Internet, Connectivity & Knowledge Devices, is designed to help Nigerians obtain digital tools required for education, employment, entrepreneurship and other economic activities.

Instead of paying the entire cost of a device upfront, eligible participants can obtain approved devices through credit and repay the amount over an agreed period.

CREDICORP describes C.L.I.C.K.D. as its flagship digital-device initiative, created to tackle the difficulty many Nigerians face in purchasing productivity devices because of the upfront cost.

The programme provides access to several categories of devices, including laptops, smartphones, tablets, connectivity devices and digital learning equipment.

C.L.I.C.K.D. operates through partnerships with trusted financial institutions, vendors and other ecosystem participants, enabling beneficiaries to obtain devices through consumer credit.

CREDICORP is a Development Finance Institution of the Federal Government of Nigeria mandated to broaden access to responsible consumer credit for Nigeria’s working population.

The programme is intended for Nigerians who require digital devices for a range of activities, including online learning and professional courses, remote work and freelancing, digital entrepreneurship, business operations, digital payments and customer management, as well as access to online opportunities and services.

Its first national pilot is being implemented in partnership with the 3 Million Technical Talent (3MTT) Programme under the Federal Ministry of Communications, Innovation and Digital Economy. As part of the pilot, eligible 3MTT participants can obtain laptops and other work-ready devices on credit.

Depending on their eligibility and the credit options available to them, participants can access productivity and learning devices suited to different needs.

Laptops can support digital work, business management, online learning and professional activities.

Smartphones can be used for communication, digital payments, business operations and accessing online services.

Tablets are intended for learning, content consumption and other digital activities.

Connectivity devices provide tools that enable users to remain connected to the internet.

Digital learning equipment includes devices required for digital education and skills development.

The C.L.I.C.K.D. model is based on responsible consumer credit. Prospective beneficiaries first explore credit options that suit their needs before selecting a participating financial institution (PFI).

Applicants then submit a credit application through their chosen financial institution. Once the application is approved, the beneficiary receives the device, with repayment taking place over time rather than requiring the full purchase cost upfront.

CREDICORP also says successful repayment can help beneficiaries establish a credit history.

For students and individuals developing digital careers, access to dependable laptops or smartphones can facilitate participation in online courses, certifications and other learning opportunities.

Entrepreneurs and small business owners can similarly use digital devices to manage customers, receive digital payments, market products online, work remotely and handle other business activities.

According to CREDICORP, the programme is intended to help Nigerians access the tools required to learn, work, earn and participate in the digital economy.

However, prospective applicants should note that C.L.I.C.K.D. is not a grant programme. It is a credit initiative and does not provide free laptops or cash grants.

Beneficiaries who qualify receive devices through consumer credit and must repay according to the terms established by the participating financial institution.

The programme’s flexible repayment structure is intended to make the cost of essential digital devices more manageable for eligible Nigerians.

Nigerians interested in the programme can visit the official CREDICORP C.L.I.C.K.D. page and select “I’m Interested” to begin the process.
