The 2026 FCT Farmers’ Day and Farmers and Investors Interactive Forum will take place at the Cyprian Ekwensi Centre for Arts and Culture in Area 10, Garki.
The two-day event is being organised jointly by Visionary Women in Agricultural Development in Africa (VIWADA) and the All Farmers Association of Nigeria (AFAN), FCT Chapter. It will also commemorate the International Year of Women Farmers.
The event’s theme is “Celebrating Women Farmers’ Efforts and Impacts, Empowering FCT Smallholder Farmers for Sustainable Growth towards the Achievement of Nutrition and Food Security in Nigeria.”
Participants will include farmers from the Federal Capital Territory and the six North Central states of Benue, Kogi, Kwara, Nasarawa, Niger and Plateau. Agribusiness operators, agricultural input suppliers, government officials, cooperatives, youth groups and other stakeholders from across Nigeria are also expected.
A major feature of the forum will be an interactive session connecting farmers directly with investors and companies providing agricultural inputs, equipment, services and other resources needed to improve farming operations.
According to the organisers, the platform will enable farmers to identify available services, establish valuable business relationships and explore partnerships with investors and agricultural enterprises.
The programme will also promote modern farming methods, showcase locally produced agricultural products and encourage the adoption of innovations capable of increasing yields, improving sustainability and raising farmers’ incomes.
Women, young people and persons with disabilities will receive particular attention as the organisers seek to widen access to agricultural opportunities and encourage more young Nigerians to consider farming as a viable business.
AFAN FCT and VIWADA established the annual celebration in 2024 to recognise farmers’ contributions, facilitate the exchange of practical agricultural knowledge and promote sectoral growth.
This year’s gathering is among the activities preceding World Food Day, observed on October 16.
The organisers expressed optimism that bringing farmers, investors, government representatives and agricultural service providers together would strengthen partnerships, support smallholder farmers and advance Nigeria’s efforts to achieve sustainable agriculture and food security.
