Senegal has secured a commitment from US cybersecurity company Cybastion to mobilise approximately $300 million for digitalisation projects as President Bassirou Diomaye Faye intensifies efforts to attract new technology investment to the country.
President Faye met a Cybastion delegation led by Chairman and CEO Dr Thierry Wandji in Washington on September 14, 2026. The meeting took place on the first day of the President’s working mission to the United States and was part of his engagements with private-sector stakeholders ahead of planned discussions with the World Bank and International Monetary Fund.
The proposed $300 million financing package is expected to support several digital infrastructure and technology priorities identified by the Senegalese government.
Key areas include cybersecurity and the fight against cybercrime, data centre development, technology transfer and national capacity building.
The programme is also expected to involve Senegal’s wider technology ecosystem. Several local start-ups are expected to be chosen to take part in implementing and developing the projects.
Their participation is intended to strengthen the capabilities of Senegalese technology companies while helping retain a larger share of the value generated by the investments within the country.
According to the government’s plans, the initiatives will contribute to Senegal’s broader digital transformation through improvements to digital public services, stronger protection of personal data and the creation of skilled employment opportunities for young people.
The programme is further expected to advance Senegal’s efforts to strengthen technological sovereignty and establish a more competitive domestic digital ecosystem capable of attracting additional investment.
During his meeting with the Cybastion delegation, President Faye stressed the importance of partnerships capable of generating economic value while preserving national control over development priorities.
He also pointed to Senegal’s natural resources, human capital and institutions as assets the country plans to leverage in its efforts to attract long-term investment.
The engagement with Cybastion was followed by meetings involving the United States Chamber of Commerce and the Corporate Council on Africa.
Those engagements form part of Senegal’s efforts to deepen relationships with US businesses and identify additional investment opportunities.
President Faye’s US mission is part of his broader drive to attract investment, strengthen Senegal’s economic partnerships and advance the country’s digital and economic development.
