NASENI expands empowerment programme to Lagos with clean energy

The National Agency for Science and Engineering Infrastructure (NASENI) has taken its Sustainable Empowerment Programme (NSEP) to Lagos State, where 1,000 beneficiaries received clean energy solutions, livelihood support and practical skills.

The Lagos edition of the initiative took place on August 28, 2026, at the LTV Blue Roof in Ikeja. The event included the distribution of 400 NASENI Power Stoves, 100 Home Solar Solutions and support packs to beneficiaries.

Beyond the distribution of clean-energy products, participants were trained in Plaster of Paris (POP) installation and electrical maintenance. The practical sessions were designed to provide beneficiaries with skills that could support income generation and the development of small businesses.

NASENI’s Executive Vice Chairman and Chief Executive Officer, Khalil Suleiman Halilu, said the programme was established to bring science, technology and engineering solutions directly to households and communities.

According to Halilu, the agency’s clean-energy products were developed to help households and small businesses address energy-related challenges while adopting alternatives that are more efficient and reliable.

“The objective is not simply to train people, but to give them skills they can convert into services, businesses and sustainable sources of income,” Halilu said.

He explained that NASENI Power Stoves offer cleaner and more efficient cooking options, while the Home Solar Solutions can supply renewable energy to households and small businesses. According to him, the solar solutions could potentially extend productive hours and support economic activities.

Halilu emphasised that NSEP was not limited to distributing products, noting that the initiative combines technology deployment with practical skills development.

He added that the effectiveness of the programme would be assessed based on whether beneficiaries could reduce their energy challenges, generate income from the skills they acquired, and establish or expand businesses.

Government representatives and community leaders who attended the Lagos event commended the initiative and urged NASENI to extend it to additional communities across the state.

NASENI said the Sustainable Empowerment Programme is part of its wider effort to turn science, technology and engineering into practical opportunities for Nigerians through job creation, enterprise development, cleaner energy, increased productivity and improved livelihoods.
