Fidelity Bank donates over 2,000 food packs to Abeokuta residents, advances food security drive

Fidelity Bank Plc has donated more than 2,000 food packs to residents of Abeokuta, Ogun State, as part of its Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) efforts aimed at supporting vulnerable communities, strengthening food security and promoting sustainable livelihoods.

The food distribution was held at St. Peter and Paul Catholic Cathedral, Itesi, Adatan, Abeokuta, as the bank continued its Fidelity Food Bank Initiative, a social intervention programme launched in 2023.

Since its establishment, the initiative has distributed more than 300,000 food packs across Nigeria’s six geopolitical zones. The programme forms part of Fidelity Bank’s contribution towards achieving the United Nations Sustainable Development Goal (SDG) 2, which focuses on Zero Hunger.

Speaking during the outreach, Folaranmi Jemirin, Regional Bank Head, South West 1, Fidelity Bank Plc, reaffirmed the bank’s commitment to using its CSR programmes to improve communities and support sustainable development.

“At Fidelity Bank, we remain committed to implementing Corporate Social Responsibility initiatives that improve the living conditions of our host communities and contribute to sustainable development. Through our Food Bank Initiative, we are not only providing relief to vulnerable families but also supporting the global goal of ending hunger and ensuring food security for all.”

Jemirin noted that Fidelity Bank’s community-focused interventions go beyond food distribution. According to him, the bank also invests in education, youth rehabilitation, women’s economic empowerment and social welfare programmes.

He added: “This initiative is about more than distributing food items. It is about restoring hope, strengthening communities, uplifting families, and providing meaningful support that contributes to their wellbeing. We are grateful to the Catholic Diocese and all our partners whose collaboration has made this outreach possible,”

Rev. Fr. Dominic Olagbaju, Cathedral Administrator, also commended Fidelity Bank for its continued contribution to the welfare of communities and vulnerable people.

“We sincerely appreciate Fidelity Bank for counting the Abeokuta community worthy of benefiting from this noble initiative. This gesture reflects a genuine compassion and a strong commitment to supporting vulnerable members of society. We commend the bank for consistently extending helping hands to communities and partnering with institutions like the Church to make meaningful social impact.”

The Fidelity Food Bank Initiative has grown into one of the bank’s flagship social intervention programmes since its inception. It operates through strategic partnerships involving religious bodies, community organisations and other stakeholders, with the objective of reducing hunger and promoting inclusive development.

Fidelity Bank, one of Nigeria’s leading financial institutions, serves more than 10 million customers through its digital channels, 255 branches nationwide and its United Kingdom subsidiary, FidBank UK Limited.

The bank has also received several recognitions for its contributions to innovation, business support and social impact. These include the 2025 Development Bank of Nigeria (DBN) Innovation Award for MSME support, the Best Retail and SME Bank Award from Independent Newspapers, and Nigeria’s Best Private Bank at the 2025 Euromoney Awards.

Through its social responsibility initiatives, innovation and community empowerment programmes, Fidelity Bank continues to expand its interventions aimed at supporting communities and contributing to sustainable development across Nigeria.
