AshakaCem Limited, a subsidiary of HBM Nigeria Plc, has distributed fertilisers to farmers in its host communities of Ashaka and Maiganga in Gombe State as part of the company’s ongoing investment in sustainable agriculture and community development.

The distribution exercise was held at AshakaCem’s cement plant in Ashaka and its coal mine in Maiganga under the company’s 2026 Agricultural Ecology Programme.

Introduced in 2018, the Agricultural Ecology Programme is one of AshakaCem’s flagship corporate social responsibility initiatives designed to improve agricultural productivity while enhancing the livelihoods of farmers in its host communities.

In addition to the annual fertiliser distribution, the programme supplies farmers with high-yielding seeds and provides training on modern farming practices through a partnership with the National Agricultural Extension and Research Liaison Services (NAERLS) at Ahmadu Bello University, Zaria.

Speaking on the initiative, the Managing Director of Ashaka Cement Limited, Ibrahim Aminu, who was represented by the Plant Manager of AshakaCem Limited, Engineer Adamu Mohammed, said the programme aligns with the company’s long-term sustainability strategy, which focuses on building strong partnerships with host communities to create lasting socio-economic benefits.

“Through the Agricultural Ecology Programme, we are equipping farmers with the resources and knowledge they need to improve productivity, increase yields and strengthen food security. Our commitment extends beyond cement manufacturing to creating lasting social and economic value for our host communities, and we will continue to invest in initiatives that improve livelihoods and contribute to sustainable rural development,” Mohammed stated.

He also encouraged beneficiaries to apply the knowledge and modern farming techniques acquired during the training sessions to maximise the value of the agricultural inputs provided.

Mohammed reaffirmed AshakaCem’s commitment to sustaining the Agricultural Ecology Programme as part of the company’s broader efforts to promote inclusive growth and strengthen its relationship with host communities.
