Wema Bank has reaffirmed its commitment to using technology to expand financial inclusion and improve customer experience across Nigeria following its recognition as Nigeria’s Best Digital Bank for Consumers 2026 by Euromoney.
The recognition came through the globally respected Euromoney Awards for Excellence, which acknowledged the bank’s sustained achievements in digital banking innovation, particularly through ALAT, Africa’s first fully digital bank.
Reacting to the award, the Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer of Wema Bank, Moruf Oseni, said the honour reflects the bank’s deliberate investment in building customer-focused digital banking solutions that simplify financial services.
“This award is a strong validation of the deliberate investments we have made over the years to build a truly digital bank that puts customers at the centre of everything we do,” Oseni said. “Innovation for us has never been about technology for its own sake. It has always been about creating solutions that make banking easier, faster, safer, and more rewarding for every customer.”
Under Oseni’s leadership, the bank has continued expanding its digital capabilities to serve both digitally connected urban customers and underserved communities. Recent enhancements introduced on the ALAT platform include voice banking, tap-to-pay functionality, personalised financial products, and AI-powered fraud monitoring.
Speaking on the bank’s continued digital transformation, Oseni highlighted its long-term strategy of anticipating customer expectations through innovation.
“From pioneering Africa’s first fully digital bank with ALAT to continuously evolving our digital capabilities, we have remained focused on anticipating customer needs and building experiences that create real value.”
Beyond its digital banking platforms, Wema Bank has also expanded its agency banking network while deploying data-driven personalisation tools that provide tailored recommendations for savings, loans and investment products. The initiatives have helped extend formal financial services to more Nigerians.
Oseni dedicated the international recognition to the bank’s mission of driving innovation and shaping the future of banking in the country.
“We are honoured by this recognition from Euromoney and inspired to continue pushing the boundaries of innovation as we shape the future of banking in Nigeria.”
With a history spanning more than eight decades, Wema Bank continues to combine its position as Nigeria’s oldest indigenous financial institution with modern digital banking capabilities. The Euromoney 2026 recognition further underscores the bank’s commitment to operational excellence, secure banking services and inclusive economic growth.
