PTML makes $2m CSR donation to Lagos schools

The Managing Director of Port Terminal Multipurpose Ltd. (PTML) Terminal, TinCan Island Port Complex, Ascanio Russo, has revealed that his company has spent over two million dollars in donations for buildings and renovations in a senior secondary school and a junior one in Lagos State.

This was disclosed at a media conference in Lagos.

Russo said that the gesture was part of the company’s corporate social responsibility to Amuwo-Odofin Senior Secondary school and Amuwo-Odofin Junior secondary school.

“PTML is a port terminal located in Tincan Island and owned by Grimaldi Group, an Italian logistics group, which has been in Nigeria for over 50 years.

“Over the years, we developed more terminals located around the Mile 2 area which is over 250,000 square metres, and this is a huge off-dock and waterfront off-dock terminal in Nigeria.“The last development started in 2019, and Lagos State Government gave us the concession to use one land which was an addition to the existing school complex.“It was a major construction work because the areas were littered with mechanic workshops, shanties. The area is just next to the schools,” he said.

Russo also noted that during the development of the terminal, the schools activities got support since they had always been a neighbour.

“Since 2020, we really stepped up our support for the schools both as our social responsibility and to show Lagos State Government our seriousness and appreciation for giving us the confidence to build this facility.

“We believe strongly in education and in working in a conducive environment. That is why the Grimaldi Group supported PTML in providing assistance and support to the schools.

“We entered a number of projects since 2020 such as building of 500-meter interlock access road within the Mile 2 Complex,” he said.

He added that the company constructed world-class drainage system within the school complex to avoid flooding.“We have changed most of the roofs in the schools, donated computers, printers and accessories,” he added.

He said that last year, the company donated more than 1,000 desks and chairs and provided furniture in staff rooms at the Amuwo-Odofin Junior High School.

“We got a new 50kv transformer to supply power to Amuwo-Odofin Senior and Junior schools, constructed a standard borehole and installed a water treatment plant, we constructed two new security houses and gates.

We have been sponsoring, for over five years, the schools’ inter-house sports activities, and in the last three years, the teachers’ award celebration,” he said.

He added that the group constructed a 10-classroom block and furnished it with desks, chairs, computers and television sets.

Russo said that the company would do more because it believed in long-term partnership and support for neighbours.

“This is our small contribution to the education of these children who possibly, tomorrow, will come and join our organisation and find employment in the company which is sitting next to their schools.
