Drive Electric Campaign opens e-mobility grant funding for NGOs

The Drive Electric Campaign has opened applications for the fourth round of its Leapfrogging to E-Mobility Acceleration Partnership (LEAP) Fund, offering grants of between US$100,000 and US$150,000 to nonprofit organisations working to promote electric mobility across Africa and Southeast Asia.

The funding initiative aims to accelerate electric vehicle adoption by supporting local organisations involved in policy development, institutional capacity building and stakeholder engagement.

A total of US$1.5 million has been allocated for the funding round, with approximately 10 to 12 organisations expected to receive support. Successful applicants will implement their proposed projects over an 18-month period.

Eligible Countries

The LEAP Fund is open to legally registered organisations operating in seven eligible countries across Africa and Southeast Asia.

The African countries are:

  • Nigeria
  • Kenya
  • South Africa
  • Ethiopia

In Southeast Asia, eligible countries include:

  • Thailand
  • Vietnam
  • Philippines

Organisations registered outside these seven countries are not eligible to apply.

Who Can Apply?

The funding opportunity targets organisations working in areas related to sustainable transportation, environmental protection, climate action and policy development.

Eligible applicants include:

  • Legally registered nonprofit organisations.
  • Charitable organisations.
  • Environmental and climate-focused non-governmental organisations (NGOs).
  • Sustainable transport organisations.
  • Renewable energy and policy organisations.
  • Civil society organisations involved in relevant policy issues.

Previous experience in electric mobility is not a compulsory requirement for applicants.

However, organisations must meet specific conditions to qualify. They must be legally registered in one of the seven eligible countries, demonstrate the ability to receive grants from a US-based organisation and have no previous funding history with the Drive Electric Campaign.

Proposed projects must also demonstrate how their activities will contribute to electric mobility policy outcomes.

Organisations that have previously received support from other ClimateWorks programmes are still eligible to apply.

Available Funding Tracks

Applicants must select one of three funding tracks that best aligns with their proposed activities and objectives.

  1. Institutional Readiness and Policy Design

This track supports research, technical assistance, training and regulatory capacity development aimed at strengthening policies that encourage electric mobility adoption.

  1. Mobilising Business Voices

This funding area focuses on bringing businesses, fleet operators, utilities and industry coalitions into discussions and initiatives that support electric mobility policies.

  1. A People-Powered Transition

This track is designed to encourage broader public participation in electric mobility policy processes by supporting the mobilisation of communities, workers, drivers, young people and other relevant stakeholders.

Funding Details

The fourth round of the LEAP Fund provides the following support:

  • Grant amount: US$100,000 to US$150,000 per organisation.
  • Total funding pool: US$1.5 million.
  • Expected beneficiaries: 10–12 organisations.
  • Project duration: 18 months.
  • Funding type: Grants.
  • Application deadline: November 6, 2026, at 4:59 PM West Africa Time (UTC+1).
