Prudential Zenith Life Insurance Limited (PZL) has donated 200 overalls and 100 traffic cones to the Lagos Waste Management Authority (LAWMA) to improve sanitation workers’ safety and contribute to a cleaner urban environment.
The donation, made in commemoration of World Environment Day 2026, reflects the insurer’s commitment to environmental, social and governance (ESG) principles. It also highlights the importance of protecting not only the environment but also the people and public services responsible for maintaining healthy and productive communities.
The donated overalls will provide protective clothing for sanitation workers, while the traffic cones are expected to increase the visibility of field crews and help safeguard workers and road users during waste management operations.
Samuel Ohonusi, executive director/COO of Prudential Zenith Life Insurance, said environmental health was essential to building resilient communities and supporting sustainable business practices.
“Our partnership with LAWMA is an investment in the safety and dignity of those who keep Lagos clean, and in the wellbeing of the people who depend on a safer, more organised city,” Ohonusi said.
He added that the equipment would help protect sanitation personnel and strengthen the systems that enable communities to thrive.
Receiving the donation on behalf of LAWMA, its managing director/CEO, Muyiwa Gbadegesin, thanked the insurer for the support. He noted that the items would improve the safety and visibility of sanitation workers carrying out their duties.
Gbadegesin said the partnership demonstrated a shared commitment to a cleaner and safer Lagos. He also encouraged other organisations to contribute to environmental sanitation initiatives and efforts to improve community wellbeing.
The intervention reflects Prudential Zenith’s ESG approach, which connects corporate responsibility with practical measures addressing environmental and social challenges. By supporting frontline waste management personnel, the company aims to contribute to safer workplaces, cleaner neighbourhoods and more sustainable urban development.
As Lagos faces the demands of urban expansion and environmental sanitation, collaboration between private businesses and public agencies can strengthen essential services while improving conditions for the workers who deliver them.
