Early-stage startups across Africa have been invited to apply for the SiGMA Pitch Startup Competition 2027, an international programme designed to give founders opportunities to present their businesses before investors, venture capitalists, industry leaders and potential partners.
The competition forms part of the SiGMA Startup Village and will be held during several international SiGMA summits in 2027. The Africa edition is scheduled for February 17, 2027, at GrandWest Casino and Entertainment World in Cape Town, South Africa, as part of the SiGMA Africa Summit.
More than 100 startups are expected to participate in the Africa Startup Village, from which judges will select six businesses to compete in the live pitch competition.
For the 2027 edition, founders submit one application and can be considered for the SiGMA summit most suitable for their business. The competition will take place across seven international summits covering Cape Town, Dubai, São Paulo, Malta, Manila, North America and Rome.
SiGMA Pitch provides startups with a platform to demonstrate their businesses to investors and other stakeholders across the technology, gaming, fintech and related sectors.
The programme is primarily aimed at early-stage startups, generally those at the Seed to Series A stage. Applicants must have raised no more than €3 million in total funding and should be developing an innovative product or service relevant to the SiGMA ecosystem.
Startups must also be able to attend the appropriate summit in person if selected and demonstrate a strong business proposition and clear value proposition.
Areas of interest include iGaming, sports betting, casino, esports, affiliate technology, artificial intelligence, fintech, blockchain and gaming technology.
The broader 2027 competition also identifies sectors such as payments, compliance and regtech, applied AI and data infrastructure, sports and creator technology, prediction markets and event trading.
Startups admitted into the SiGMA Startup Village will receive several opportunities during the summit. The package includes one Premium Event Pass and four Standard Event Passes for the team, as well as a branded presence within the Startup Village.
Participants will also gain access to the Startup Lounge and dedicated workspace, invitations to exclusive networking events and opportunities to showcase their businesses to industry delegates.
Acceptance into the Startup Village also comes with automatic consideration for the SiGMA Startup Pitch competition. The village is intended to facilitate connections between participating startups and investors, operators, affiliates, mentors and other stakeholders within the industry.
However, admission to the Startup Village does not automatically guarantee a position among the six finalists in the live pitch competition.
After applications close, SiGMA’s judging panel will assess eligible submissions and select the finalists. For the Africa edition, six startups will progress to the final live pitch.
Each finalist will receive three minutes to present their business, followed by five minutes to respond to questions from the judging panel. The three-minute presentation limit is strictly enforced, including any video incorporated into the presentation.
The startup that achieves the highest overall score from the judges will be declared the winner of the SiGMA Startup Pitch.
Applicants can also strengthen their Startup Village application by providing a three-minute video introduction.
Beyond the competition itself, the programme offers opportunities for startups to connect with investors, venture capitalists, operators, affiliates and other businesses operating within the SiGMA ecosystem.
Selected startups will be able to use the Startup Lounge for meetings and networking throughout the summit. SiGMA will also provide public relations opportunities through its magazines, website, newsletters and interviews.
For African founders, the Cape Town summit offers a regional platform to showcase their businesses while gaining exposure to an international audience.
There is no application fee for the SiGMA Startup Village and Pitch competition. Selected Startup Village participants are also not required to pay a participation fee.
Successful applicants, however, will be responsible for their own travel, accommodation, visa costs and other personal expenses connected with attending the event.
Applications for the SiGMA Africa Pitch 2027 will close on January 6, 2027. The shortlist is expected to be announced on January 22, 2027, while the deadline for submitting pitch decks is February 3, 2027.
