Update: REAN, GWEC partner to harness wind power for Nigeria’s energy future

The Renewable Energy Association of Nigeria (REAN); an independent, non-profit industry association founded by stakeholders in the Renewable Energy sector in Nigeria, has announced a strategic partnership with Global Wind Energy Council (GWEC) through its Nigerian Branch, Nigeria Wind Energy Council (NWEC) to leverage the potentials of wind energy in Nigeria.

An update on the REAN’s LinkedIn handle revealed that the collaboration will help to research, promote, advocate and develop wind energy projects in Nigeria towards delivering Nigeria’s just energy transition goals.

The President of REAN, Ayo Ademilua expressed enthusiasm about the collaboration in a LinkedIn post: “I have always believed in the power of Vison. Just like yesterday Wangari Muchiri and I started this discussion at #COP27 in Egypt. Glad to see it coming to fruition. #Africa is blessed with abundance of Renewable Energy resources with enough potentials to eradicate energy poverty.

“It’s time we all collaborate to leverage on one another’s strengths, experiences and capabilities to liberate the continent” Ademilua noted.
The Renewable Energy Association of Nigeria will be collaborating with the Global Wind Energy Council (GWEC) through their Nigeria chapter NWEC to research, invest and develop wind projects in #nigeria leveraging on our members versatility. I am more excited about new discussions arising from this collaboration on #geothermalenergy.”

The update from REAN read: “We are thrilled to announce the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the Nigeria Wind Energy Council (NWEC), the Nigerian branch of the esteemed Global Wind Energy Council (GWEC)! This exciting collaboration marks a significant step forward in integrating wind energy into Nigeria’s energy mix and supporting the nation’s just energy transition goals,” it was revealed.

“Through this partnership, REAN and GWEC, via NWEC, will be collaborating to research, promote, advocate and develop wind energy projects in Nigeria towards delivering Nigeria’s just energy transition goals,” the updated further read.

“Together, we’ll transform wind into a powerful force for sustainable development, #economicgrowth#jobcreation, and a just energy future for Nigeria. Stay tuned for more exciting developments!”

GWEC is a member-based trade association that represents the entire wind energy sector. The members of GWEC represent over 1,500 companies, organizations and institutions in more than 80 countries, including manufacturers, developers, component suppliers, research institutes, national wind and renewables associations, electricity providers, finance and insurance companies.
