IFAJ unveils 10 recipients of 2024 IFAJ/Alltech Young Leaders Award

The International Federation of Agricultural Journalists (IFAJ) named 10 outstanding young agricultural journalists to receive the IFAJ/Alltech Young Leaders Award. The awards will be presented at IFAJ’s Global Congress in Interlaken, Switzerland, in August 2024.

The 2024 Young Leaders include:

  • Carola Urdangarin, Radio Rivadavia, Argentina
  • Brooke Littlewood, Farm Weekly, Australia
  • Michaela Sandmayr, Farmer and Trainer for Agricultural Communication, Austria
  • Wiebke Herrmann, Deutscher Landwirtschaftsverlag GmbH, Germany
  • Emma Davies, Freelance, Ghana
  • Alex Black, Farmers Guardian, Great Britain
  • Daniel Plaiasu, Ferma magazine (Ferma Media Group), Romania
  • Duncan Masiwa, Food For Mzansi, South Africa
  • Kristina Hansén, Land Lantbruk/LRF Media, Sweden
  • Courtney Girgis, Rooted Communications, USA

IFAJ Secretary-General, Addy Rossi, notes that the Young Leader award includes participation in a three-day professional development workshop immediately before the IFAJ Congress. The program, which has been sponsored since 2006 by Alltech, a global animal nutrition and crop science company, emphasizes reporting skills and leadership training.

“Alltech is proud to partner with IFAJ to support the Young Leaders program, as we all share a commitment to supporting journalists who give voice to farmers and producers and ensure that agriculture stories continue to be told around the world,” says Jenn Norrie, North American and European Communications Manager at Alltech.

Rossi says the Young Leaders program has helped agricultural journalism guilds and IFAJ grow for nearly two decades.

“The IFAJ/Alltech Young Leaders program is more than just an award to recognize rising young stars in our industry—it provides training, networks and contagious energy to tomorrow’s guild and federation leaders,” he says. “Many of the officers and active volunteers in national guilds and IFAJ’s governing bodies have been Young Leaders. With its generous sponsorship and deep commitment to the future of agricultural journalism, Alltech has helped train a generation of world leaders.”

IFAJ/Alltech Young Leaders Award

The IFAJ/Alltech Young Leaders Award was established in 2006 by the International Federation of Agricultural Journalists and Alltech to recognize emerging leaders in agricultural journalism and communications worldwide.

In addition to global recognition, Young Leaders participate in professional development and networking programs in conjunction with IFAJ’s annual Congress.

The IFAJ/Alltech Young Leaders program is a key force in developing the next generation of volunteers for IFAJ and its member guilds. For more information, visit IFAJ.
