Commitment to education: FGN inaugurates N1.5bn TETfund project

The Federal Government of Nigeria (FGN) has reiterated the commitment of the current administration to improving the educational sector, with the commissioning of Tertiary Education Trust Fund (TETFund) blocks of classrooms and offices at the University of Ibadan, and The Polytechnic, Ibadan, respectively.

The commissioned projects, estimated to be valued at N1.5bn, include the construction of the Department of Architecture building and the construction of blocks of offices and classrooms at the Faculty of Technology at the University of Ibadan, while blocks of classrooms and offices of the Faculty of Business and Communication Studies, Faculty of Financial Management Studies and Faculty of Science were commissioned at The Polytechnic, Ibadan.

President Bola Tinubu, who was represented by the Minister of Power, Adebayo Adelabu, said the project would in no small measure enhance learning, teaching and the improvement of academic standards.

He said, “I wish to reiterate that education forms an integral part of our administration’s Renewed Hope Agenda, hence the Federal Government will continue to provide necessary support towards making our educational institutions globally competitive.”

The Vice-Chancellor of the University of Ibadan, Prof Kayode Adebowale, also said that the building had assisted the department in securing accreditation for some of its courses.

At The Polytechnic, Ibadan, the Rector, Prof Kazeem Adebiyi, said, “The Polytechnic, through TETFund, has three faculty buildings, three lecture theatres and equipment for various programmes in the institution.

The TETFund Director, Monitoring and Evaluation, Babatunde Olajide, who spoke on behalf of the Executive Secretary of the agency, said the body would not relent in its effort towards uplifting tertiary institutions in Nigeria.
