The Alumni Association of Ahmadu Bello University (ABU) has appealed to President Bola Tinubu to ensure adequate funding for Nigeria’s education sector towards enhancing growth and development in the country.

The association’s president, Dr. Sani Khalil, made the call in Abuja during a reunion and get-together organized by the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) branch of the alumni body.

Khalil, who described education as the bedrock of development, also urged the present administration to consider granting scholarships to indigent students to alleviate their plights and ensure education for all Nigerians.

He said the student loan scheme is a laudable initiative by President Tinubu, but a lot still needed to be done as most beneficiaries might not be able to repay due to a lack of employment opportunities in the country.

Khalil’ who is the global president of the association, while stressing the need for effective entrepreneurship studies in tertiary Institutions, called for the resuscitation of the country’s ailing industry towards creating jobs for Nigerian graduates.

Also, the immediate past president of the association, Prof. Ahmed Mora, commended the FCT branch for organizing the event and advised members to unite towards ensuring the progress of the Association.
